What makes this skinny?
Wine cocktails tend to be lower calorie due to the alcohol content. They beat out mixed drinks due to higher calorie mixers, the amount of simple syrup or lots of liquor (especially cocktails that tend to be on the sweeter side).
Because this frozen wine slushie combines a bottle of white wine with fresh watermelon it keeps the calories light. No extra sweetener is needed thanks to the fruit combination.
Recipe Ingredients Notes
Fresh watermelon. You'll need 7 cups of cut up watermelon. Be sure to use sweet ripe fruit since the watermelon is the main flavor of the slushy cocktail. Cut up your own watermelon or buy already cut watermelon from the grocery store to save time.
White wine. One 750-ml bottle of favorite white wine. Chill the bottle before starting the recipe. See section below for white wine suggestions.
Ice. You'll need two cups.
Best white wine to use
This cocktail is very flexible in terms of the white wine used. Here are our top choices:
Sweet wine: Moscato wine (pink moscato or white moscato work) or Rose
Dry wine: Pinot Grigio or Sauvignon Blanc. A dry white wine is still sweet but less sweet. They tend to be light and fresh perfect for this favorite summer cocktail.
How to Make Watermelon White Wine Slushies
STEP 1. Preparation
If using a regular size blender you'll need to split the ingredients into two batches to blend it all. If using a larger high powered blender (like a Vitamix with a larger blender jar) it can be made in one batch.
STEP 2. Blend
Combine the watermelon (photos 1-2), white wine (photo 3) and ice in the blender. Blend until that perfect slushy texture forms (photo 4).
STEP 3. Serve
Pour into a pitcher for serving or individual serving glasses. If blending in two batches, mix the batches together in a pitcher before serving.
Variations
This wine slushie recipe can use sweet white wine or dry white wine. Pick your favorite bottle of wine. The watermelon adds great flavor and is so hydrating, perfect for a summer drink!
Try different flavors. Next time you can change it up with other flavor combinations; different fruits or different wine. If you used a dry wine try a sweet Moscato wine or a bottle of fruity white wine.
Pair with some frozen fruit (frozen peaches, frozen pineapple, etc). Or try other fruits to make peach wine slushies or use fresh strawberries to make a strawberry slushie.
