    Turkey Lettuce Wraps

From Mexican food lovers to weight watchers, it doesn't get better than this recipe. It's lean, low carb, naturally gluten-free AND big on flavor.

Adding prepared salsa defines the flavor so use what you love. Turkey is not only lean but has a light flavor meaning the other ingredients will be what you'll taste.

All of the ingredients are easy to find at the grocery store too. Nothing exotic or hard to find required.

For those who love PF Chang's lettuce wraps this is the same idea with Mexican inspired flavors.

Serve them as a main dish or as a fun appetizer.

    What makes it skinny?

    • No taco shells or soft tortillas. Lettuce is used instead.
    • Lean turkey meat instead of higher fat ground beef .

A regular beef taco has around 225 calories. These healthy turkey lettuce wraps have 54 calories each and 1 WW SmartPoint on any plan.

    Recipe Ingredients + Notes

    turkey lettuce wraps ingredients labelled

Olive oil. Just a couple of teaspoons are used to sauté the onions.

    Yellow onion.

Lean Ground Turkey. We suggest 93% lean. Turkey is already a lean meat so having some fat will help keep it moist and add flavor. The fat percentage for this turkey is 7%.

Salsa. Use a 16-ounce jar of your favorite salsa. This recipe is based on restaurant style salsa but any salsa can be used.

Taco seasoning. Homemade taco seasoning or store bought seasoning may be used.

Butter lettuce. You'll need 2-3 head of butter lettuce. Butter lettuce is soft, pliable and easy to bite through so works great for these lettuce wraps.

    Toppings Ideas

Add toppings as you would with a taco. Here are some ideas

    • Sliced jalapeno peppers
    • Some Mexican cheese blend or cotija cheese
    • Diced avocado
    • Diced tomatoes
    • Guacamole
    • Light sour cream
    • Sliced green onions
    • Squeeze of lime juice

    Variations

Use other ground meat. Ground chicken is another lean option. Any ground meat can be used though the calories will differ.

Try other lettuce. Romaine leaves or large iceberg lettuce leaves will add a refreshing crunch to the lettuce wraps. Boston lettuce leaves are another delicious softer choice.

How to make Taco Turkey Lettuce Wraps - Step-by-Step

Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat (photo 1). When the surface is rippling add the onions and sauté until translucent (3-4 minutes; photo 2).

turkey lettuce wraps recipe steps 1-2

Add the ground turkey and cook breaking it apart into small pieces until no pink remains. Drain any excess fat (there most likely won't be any)(photo 3).

Add the salsa and taco seasoning; stir to combine (photo 4).

Cook 1-2 additional minutes to allow the flavors to mesh. Remove from heat (photo 5).

turkey lettuce wraps recipe steps 3-5

    Making the lettuce wraps

Overlap two similar size lettuce leaves (photo 6). Add ¼ cup of the turkey mixture in the center of the two leaves (photo 7).

    Add any toppings and serve.

    turkey lettuce wraps steps 6-7

    Pro Tip

Add more vegetables on top! A secret to adding more substance to healthy recipes without adding calories is to add more vegetables. They are filling and add a ton of flavor.

Shredded carrots, chopped onion, sliced scallion, sliced jalapeno, diced tomatoes, even diced bell peppers add color, flavor and substance to these wraps.

    Storing leftovers

If there is leftover turkey mixture store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Store the lettuce separately.

Great recipe Toni, skinny indeed! I like how they have about 1/4th of the calories of a regular taco. And I love lettuce wraps, to begin with. This turkey version is on point, and super flavorful!
