What makes this skinny?
Air frying allows cooking to a tender texture without loads of calories. There is only a few sprays of olive oil spray, no tablespoons of oil or butter.
Recipe Ingredients Notes
Broccoli florets. You'll need 4 cups for broccoli florets. This is the equivalent of one full head of broccoli cut into florets. A great shortcut is to buy already cut bagged florets in the produce section of the grocery store. One 12-ounce bag holds 4 cups and they are usually pre-washed and ready to use!
Everything Bagel seasoning. If you've had an Everything Bagel this seasoning is a combination of all the great flavors in the bagels. Sesame seeds, dehydrated garlic, dehydrated onion, poppy seeds, black sesame seeds and salt.
It's a delicious (Iow calorie) perfect to add some zesty flavor to recipes. Instead of needing to prepare fresh garlic this blend delivers those great flavors in an easy way. We think it coats the broccoli more evenly than using garlic powder or onion powder.
Multiple brands make this seasoning blend. Select one that does not list salt as the first ingredients. Otherwise the seasoning can become very salty tasting. This can also be used in different ways: on chicken, rice, soups, salads, anywhere garlic and onion flavor would be enjoyed.
Olive oil spray. You'll use a couple sprays of olive oil spray.
How to make Broccoli in the Air Fryer - Step-by-Step
Printable detailed recipe card at the end of the post.
STEP 1. Preparation
Add the broccoli florets to a large bowl.
Spray with olive oil spray, toss and spray again.
Season broccoli with the everything bagel seasoning and toss to mix in with the broccoli.
STEP 2. Air Fry
Place the broccoli in the air fryer basket in a single layer. NOTE: depending on the size of your air fryer you may need to do this in two batches.
Cook at 400 degrees F for 5 minutes.
The broccoli will still have a crunch. If you prefer the broccoli to be softer add 1-2 additional minutes cooking time after checking the broccoli.
Variations
Like it spicy? Sprinkle on some red pepper flakes when serving.
A cheesy touch. Sprinkling on a little bit of Parmesan cheese when serving adds some extra delicious flavor.
Lemon Zest. We add some lemon zest to Air Fryer Green Beans and love it on this easy air fryer broccoli too!
Use cauliflower or a mix! You can swap cauliflower in for broccoli or cook a mix of the two.
The Air Fryer we use
We cook with a Cosori 5.8 quart air fryer and love it!
Pro Tips
Air Fryers cook differently. Each type of air fryer cooks slightly differently. Check the cooked broccoli after 5 minutes and if you'd like it cooked longer add a few minutes.
Cut broccoli into similar size florets. Whether you are cutting your own or using store bought florets try to cut them into similar sizes so they cook in the same amount of time.
For softer broccoli: one trick to make broccoli softer (not as al dente) in the air fryer it to as 1 tablespoon of water in the bottom of the air fryer. This steams the broccoli as it cooks giving it a less crispy broccoli end result.
Frequently Asked Questions
Yes! Frozen broccoli will turn out softer and more tender than fresh broccoli. To make it preheat the air fryer to 400 degrees (not necessary for fresh broccoli). Substitute the frozen broccoli florets into the recipe. Add the frozen broccoli to the preheated air fryer (do not add any water in the bottom of the air fryer). The cooking time should be the same. Check at 5 minutes and add more time if needed.
How to Store
Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 1-2 days. Reheat in the air fryer or microwave.
