Homemade Ancho Chile Powder

Ingredients

  • 2 dried ancho chiles

Instructions

  • Remove the stem and seeds from the dried. ancho chiles (discard stem and seeds; see Notes).
    2 dried ancho chiles
  • Tear them into pieces and add them to a spice grinder or mini food processor.
  • Grind until finely ground.

Notes

To make the chile powder spicier include some of the seeds when grinding the peppers. The seeds in a chile pepper are what creates most of the spicy heat!
Yield. This recipe can scale to make as much as you want to. We picked 2 chile peppers feeling 3 tablespoons of chile powder is a good start for most people and gives an idea of the yield.
How to store
Store in an airtight jar or glass container away from direct sunlight and any heat source. Use within 6 months.
